freeware track planners?

i just tried to download Atlas RTS 7.0 track planner and could not get it to run, something about language files not matching up, and need to reinstall it, did that three times, and thats my lucky number anymore than that and its not worth it to me.

What i would like to know is if there is another program out there that is free and does basically the same as the RTS, or if it is known what the problem is maybe i can fix it

There’s this http://www.sillub.com/. It’s called xtrkcad. I’ve not used it but some guys here (which is where I got the link from) say it’s pretty good.

The actual archive isn’t there, but the most important part is: the registration codes.

He does give some links about where to look for the archive you can download and install.

There is a Yahoo group too. There may be more advanced versions of the program there. (You must belong to the group).

I’m a big XtrkCad fan. I found it more useful that thr Atlas system. It does require some learning time… there is a tutorial with it that is a must. Once you “get it” it becomes a sub-hobby of its own. Try it!

Here is the link to the Yahoo Group for XtrkCAD

This has the latest version of the program plus alot of experienced people that can help you learn the program. I HIGHLY recomend using the animated tutorials they will show you how to get the job done and leave you able to work with little questions. I have used this program to design my last 2 layouts and both have worked great.

I have used it before and like it, as well. It is now an open source project and you can get the most recent versions and information at the XTrkCAD Wiki.

Hope that helps!

Thank you i have downloaded it, and i am now reading the tutorials, should be able to use them in about 3 months or so [(-D]

You should be fine after you get through the learning curve helix. [B)]
