Does anyone know what became of Pacific Car and Foundry and Midwest Freight Car? I believe that Midwest Freight became part of Portec and ultimately Gunderson.

Midwest Freight Car became a part of Portec, but it was Thrall, not Gunderson, that gobbled them up. Thrall itself is now gone, too, with some operations (not many) being taken over by Trinity Industries.

Don’t know who, if anybody, was successor to PC&F.

PC&F had it’s name changed to Paccar, and remained a subsidary of Paccar, but I don’t know what happened to it after that.

Add to Manufactuers - Fallen Flags - Trinity Industries Oklahoma City Plant. They will close their doors here January 1st. No more orders for tank cars, I guess. As far as I know, this affects only the Oklahma City Plant.

Paccar is still around. They own Peterbilt and Kenworth, among other companies. The last time I was on their website, I did not see anything about when they stopped making freight cars. However, I am sure they no longer make them.

Are you sure it was not Greenbrier (parent company of Gunderson)? I did not see anything about freight cars on Greenbriar’s website. If it was Greenbriar, that brings up the question, what happened to whatever they named that company?

I do think that they are 2 different Greenbriar / Greenbrier companies. Originally I thought that they were one in the same, but as I dug in, it appeared that one is Greenbrier Car, whereas the other is Greenbriar Investments. The latter owns EMD.

Yes, they are separate companies with different spellings. The parent company of Gunderson is the Greenbrier Companies. One of the owners of EMD is Greenbriar Equity.
