freight house options for ~70's era D&RGW layout

Hey guys. So i got the new Walthers flyer, and I’ve been wondering what freight house kits would be better suited to my prototype.

The 2 Walthers kits I’ve been considering are the Golden Valley Freight House

or the Commissary/Freight Transfer building

Space is sort of at a premium… and I’d really rather have a craftsman kit, but I like how these Walthers kits look.

And basically, my fleet consists of GP35’s, GP40’s, a GP9, and SD40T-2’s if that helps.

Thanks!!

Either one, both wouldn’t be used as a “freight house” since by your era LCL freight was pretty much dead. They would probably be used as storehouses or MofW sheds/gang headquarters. If space is at a premium put in a team track or an overhead crane. That would prototypically get some traffic.

One other possibility for a 1970s layout would be to have the railroad lease or sell the freight house to a freight forwarding company. Such an operation would pick up and deliver freight in its own trucks, and load railroad cars for long hauls. Even this kind of business was in decline by that time, although some forwarder traffic stayed on the rails riding in trailers on flatcars. So long, Andy

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I think I’ll be better off with a specific industry, then.

I’m definitely going to have a team track next to my small engine service/fueling area.
