Today GDRMB announced that it will be supplying and maintaining 10 new GT44C locomotives for Freightliner HeavyHaul UK. These units will feature chain couplers and buffers to be able to haul the UK rolling stock. With this new contract and many others world wide GDRMB is becoming a big player in the international motive power scene.

“Chain” couplers?
Since when did UK locos and rolling stock have “chain” couplers?
Screw couplers perhaps but NOT “chain”.
And a loco with only one cab? Are you sure? You realise that there are almost no turntables left in the UK? Where are they going to turn these beast, there aren’t even that many convenient wyes/triangles left either.
These locomotives will be based out of a new GDRMB facility located in Doncaster which does feature a small wye for turning the locomotive after each run and sorry my bad they are screw type couplers. Also the GT44 series locomotives and all other GDRMB R35 series locomotives can be fitted with bi directional controls so there will really be no need for a second cab.

Enquires on UK newsgroups show that nobody so far has heard of this.

Ah, Mr. Legg, good to see that you are expanding to the UK market now. I’m afraid that the majority of our locomotives are too large for UK use, and we are only in the beginning processes of developing a locomotive for the European market.
Great work with the drawing, and the paint scheme as well![tup][tup]
Man, you are the pro with paint! Looking good! And no, the Alberta Pacific is still all EMD!
