Just got done painting a boxcar and thought I would share, constructive critisum welcome, that is the only way I have to learn to do better
Looks good to me. Very nice job.[tup]
How does the saying go?
No runs, no drips, no errors… looks very nice. Airbrush or rattle can?
Rattle can----Cummins engine beige
Nice job, I’m hoping to be half as successful with my airbrush.
Super job on the paint & decaling. As I watched the picture gradually appear on my monitor, I was struck by: (1) How nice the grab irons on the left end look; (2) How bulky the ladder and stirrup steps look, by comparison.
That’s one of the features that have jumped out at me, looking at the Kadee cars down at the hobby shop.
It’s not a huge project to shave off the cast-on ladders and grabs with an Exacto blade (like a #17).

I’m not the most skilled painter and I always hate to criticize - even constructively, but was the car by chance a pale blue or grey color when you started? It seems that some “pale blue” color is showing near the roof towards the front of the car, and in the grooves of the sliding door and door stops in the second picture.
There aren’t any “official” AAR reporting marks for Cummins, but maybe you could add CUMN above the 1285.
Great start. I was thinking of detailing a 4-pack of Proto 1000 “Popcicle” cars the same way. Keep up the good work.
Very, very nice. Dirty it up some and it’l be PERFECT. LOL! Great job!
Nice Cars. i need to learn how to do that
I see what you mean, I hadn’t noticed that until you mentioned it. The car was a dark blue at the start, then was primed with gray primer befor the final coat. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. What is an AAR reporting mark? Thanks for the input. Mike
An AAR reporting mark is the 2 to 4 letter designation listed with the Association of American Railroads for who owns a railcar. Here are some examples: CNA (Canadian National Railway), WC (Wisconsin Central), GATX (General American Marks Company).
Hell, you don’t want the thing perfect…tell you what you might try. How bout weathering it where the blue paint is showing through? I’ve seen bleed through on cars before that were freshly painted. It’s prototypical.
Where did you get the decals? did you print your own? They look GREAT!
Yes I am just learning to print my own decals using Print Shop & Testors decal maker. Thanks I always enjoy a comment like that. Mike
It looks awsome, and you did it with spray paint. Give me some tips!!
