Friendlyst Railroad.

Which American Railroad is the Friendiest?

IN the 50’s it use to be SP at least that’s what there slogan was.

The fact is their all buisness companies. some may have more railfan friendly employees, They will all kick you off for trespassing, or they should. Personally I find BNSF and CP very accomodating

I dont know who is the freindlest but the most unfreindly is NS

LOL - Why can’t anyone spell F-R-I-E-N-D-L-I-E-S-T?

I found Southern Pacific to be very friendly thru the 1990’s.

In the '50’s it was the Gainesville Midland.

I found the Grand Trunk Western, from operating crews and station agent/operators through trainmasters and the Division Superintendent, and the Director of Public Relations, to be very accommodating during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

I agree about the Grand Trunk in the old days. The railroads where crews generally did their very best to make passengers feel at home:

Denver and Rio Grande Western
New York New Haven and Hartford
AT&SF
Both ACL and Seabord
Both Milwaukee and Northern Pacific
Boston and Maine

Jersey Central was always friendly.

G’day, Y’all,
Coborn 35, your pictures are so big that I can read all the other mail before they come up. Can you make them a little smaller?
Jock Ellis

In the Guilded Age, the New York Central was refered to as the friendliest railroad because at every station you went to, either Grand Central Terminal in New York City or Michigan City, Indiana, you can’t help but run into a sign that includes the word ‘please’ on it. This was largely because of a misquote in the major papers of what William Henry Vandibuilt said: “The public be dammed!” (He really said “The public WILL be dammed” in reference of all the nasty stuff said about his family and his railroad empire.)

At one time the Southern Pacific was “Your Friendly Railroad”.Then in the mid 1950s SP turned anti-passenger,and they weren’t so friendly anymore.
Santa Fe was always friendly,too.

Southern Pacific hands down !!!

CSX gets my vote… I once got a tour of a roundhouse just casue I was a courtius railfan…

For the western railroads I have to say neither. BNSF ran me and a friends off the right of way by Belen and I have been run off of UP several times at different locations.

CP in western Canada, I’ve never had a bad experiene…and I’ve done things that would probably get me arrested in this day and age in the US…like put a radio beside an engine to record the sounds in the dead of night and walk away to take pix…how much does that sound like a bomb, eh?

matt i wouldn’t have done that eh? lol but yes you probably would’ve got shot by the FBI or something eh?

OZJIM eh?

hehe note the use of eh?..eh?

Its just your computer. This pic isnt very large.

THE DMIR WAS THE BEST!!! They would blow the horn when people were filming, slow down, and even give you a pass to the YARD if you asked nicely!!

The Erie-Lackawanna has a slogan about friendly service, but I don’t know how friendly they were. Not too many today seem to fit that category.
