IRM is reporting that 1630 is down for an early 1472 inspection due to an issue that was discovered when they where getting her ready for this season.
Better safe than sorry. I’m glad they identified an issue and are doing what they can to fix it. Unfortunate that it’ll take a while, but I’m glad they’re doing it right instead of doing it fast.
I hope they’ll be able to raise all the funds they need as well. Fortunately IRM has a large volunteer base.

IRM from what they’re saying in this update here literally avoided another Gettysburg style incident with the 1630. They found superheater tubes below minimum safety thickness during the annual inspection and made the smart decision to pull her out of service to replace all tubing in the boiler. Ouch that’s going to take a huge chunk of cash to make that happen.
Oh I’ve been here for a while
I used to go by lord Atmo. Wasn’t the most pleasant person back then, to put it lightly. But I made my way back here thanks to all my IRM trips. I’ve ridden behind 1630 dozens of times too. But again, I’m glad they sidelined it to get it fixed up rather than let a problem become too big.
