Frisco coal hopper from atlas question

Hi

I am looking at the Atlas ho model of 2 bay coal hopper of Frisco atl 18909 in black paint scheme and white lettering/numbering

is this hopper correct for paint scheme, lettering and numbering to represent a coal hopper of Frisco? For what ime period is this hopper prototopical to use ?

thanks very much for your reply

Stefano, the Atlas #18909 2 bay hoppers that I saw are numbered 90690 and 90705. They would represent an order of Frisco 2 bay hoppers built by the Mt. Vernon Car Company in 1948. Some of these cars survived up to the merger with BN in 1980. The lettering is pretty close to correct, however, I’m not sure about the black paint. My understanding (and I am open to correction from the more knowledgeable Frisco modelers out there) is that those hoppers were oxide red or boxcar red. I thought that black was reserved for the ACF “kits” that Frisco assembled between 1976 - 1978… and those are 3 bay hoppers. I’m not sure if the 2 bay hoppers from the earlier era were ever repainted in black… anyone else know?
