On a trip to Alabama, I found a abandon Frisco center cupola extra long Caboose. After I got permission from the county it was in to remove it. I had it shipped back home to NC. I want to find the history on it, any Ideas where to start? It was built 5-73, later it became Burlington Northern. It still has the Frisco Marking as well SL SF, BN was painted over SL SF. For a caboose sitting in the woods for years, its in good shape. Thanks, for any help. Joe
spjoe,
Some of us have id 2 cabooses on here as recently as 2 weeks ago…WE need a picture to help you id your caboose…Is it an outside braced carbody with a baggage door
Does it have a # on it like under the cupola or on the ends or sides?
Thanks for contacting me. As of right now I’m unable to post a photo, I would love to PC is not working right. I’m waiting for the PC Geeks to come over to fix it. This it the information that I have so for, I was able to remove some paint to show the marking SL SF 1402… BN 11632 was painted over it. I would love to know the classification of this caboose.
Once again thank you
Joe Brown
Is this it?

yes, its looks about the same but nicer. Can you tell me about the make and model? Joe
This caboose looks like it was built on a 40’ boxcar frame.

About 3/4 of the way down the page is a picture of the caboose in question. Not sure why I went with the picture I did other than it’s from the same class of cabeese.
This page confirms the boxcar heritage!
Joe,
The book I have,Cabins,Crummies and Hacks by Jon Henderson shows 2 outside braced wooden cabooses w/ center cupola,it also shows a long caboose w/the standard offset cupola…These are 1100 series…They were used on branch lines and were company blt…Some were reblt and steel riveted siding added…If it had/has BN # and lettering it survived the merger and was sold sometime after 1980…
You said yours shows to have been blt in 73,thats when the steel siding was added and upgrades made to it…Most of these cabooses were blt originally in the 20’s
home made caboose. built in springfield,mo at the frisco shops.
