Frisco Steam Locomotives

As I understand it, the route is more direct and goes directly onto the ATSF rather than requiring them to have an expensive branch to maintain.

What I can’t find (in part because I don’t have the books) is how the Frisco handled the interchange traffic via Floydada in the days of dieselization leading up to 1973. That, in turn, might give us a guide on the size and frequency of freight trains handled by steam.

QA&P also leased a couple of the Decapods.

I read an old thread yesterday that said that QA&P never had any of its own locomotives. Supposedly, it always used Frisco locomotives.

Like the Frisco’s St. Louis, San Francisco &Texas, the QA&P was used to meet the requirement that all railroads operating in Texas be headquartered in Texas. The list of QA&P officers shows the President had his home office in St. Louis, MO.

QA&P may also have served as a “neutral” connection to Santa Fe’s Panhandle & Santa Fe to bypass preferred car routing rules for certain traffic.

Well I’ll be. I never knew that.
