From our man on the ground in Houston...

Not only is Ed the photo of the day today, Friday, on the Trains.com home page (with an unpatched, unwashed, SP speed-lettering SD45), he’s also going to be the photo of the day on Saturday and Sunday. Yes, don’t faint, three days in a row with new photos, and they’re all Eds.

Be sure to check in on Sunday for what I think is the coolest shot I’ve ever used for the photo of the day. A little hint: it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “as agile as a cat.”

Nice work, Ed!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Bergie

Congratulations to Ed…Good work.

Nice shot, I look forward to Saturday and Sunday.

HAT TRICK!!! Way to go!

Jay

And, of course, a question to go with the picture! BNSF has left some old Sante Fe’s in their colors, but painted the BNSF logo on them. Why didn’t UP do that to this one?

Way to go, Bud!

Mookie

Ok, so now I wonder which ones of the bunch I sent he chose…
The SD45 was just too neat to pass up, just about all the SP power down here has the patch paint job and the UP shield decal on the nose.

For those wondering where the crew went, they just walked across the street, to buy hambugers for lunch!

Very Nice Shot ED!!
Now I have something to look forward to this weekend with the other photos.
Our weather here in KY is getting to be a pain in the rump with the rain and chilly weather.

Ed

Joe - I got a sneak peek and - it’s a real cat! [tup]

Congratulations on a VERY good picture. If my cousin in Cal. were still alive,he
would want at least an 8" X 10" of it. (retired, unfortunately deceased SP eng.)

WOW! An unpatched SP unit with the lettering still on the side[:)].All of the unpatched units I have seen lately had the Southern Pacific lettering blotted out[:(!].

They now update the pics of the day on weekends? I never knew that. Anyway, since i won’t be around to see it, is there any archive of past “pics of the day”?

I have the same question about accessing archived pictures. And congratulations, Ed. I got a big lift out of the seeing the SP lettering.

Ed congratulations on photo of the day! I will look forward to seeing tomorrow’s
and Sunday’s installments. Very good photo, indeed!!

Congrats Ed! Three in a row is really neat!

Go to the top of the page, where it gives the list of magazines.
Click Trains. You’ll get another page.
In the far left column, scroll down to Resources.
You will find Photos, audio, video. Click on.
You will get (approx. center of screen), there is a search section.
Click on, and will give you several choices, among them Photo
of the Day.

Hope I have helped you, not confused you. I had a lot of trouble
finding it myself originally.[:)]

Kudos Ed![8D]

WOW ED!

Nice pictures too!

Actually, since it’s the photo of the day, it should be updated every day. Unfortunately, when push comes to shove (like when I have a bunch of our e-mail newsletters to do), the Photo of the Day gets put off.

I typically put all the Photos of the Day in our “Photos, audio, & video” section. To find it, go to www.trains.com and click that link in the left column (under Resources). In the photo section, select Photo of the Day from the Category pull-down menu and then enter “Edward Blysard” (for this specific case) in the Keyword field. Then hit search. You’ll be able to see all of Ed’s photos.

Now the cat’s out of the bag. Oh well!

Bergie

If you have to leave a photo of the day up for longer than a day, this is a good one to do that with. The only way to improve on this photo would be if the subject is a SD40T-2.

An interesting side note is that SP 8586 has been working the haulers out of Roseville lately. Appearently the battery box doors got swapped with another SP locomotive, so now it says “El Paso” below the cab on the left side. That is the only Speed Lettering locomotive that I have seen that had the name of one of the large shops on it.

For those of you who do not know, Southern Pacific in the 1980s (I don’t know exactly when they started, but judging from pictures it appears to be in the eighties) put the name of the locomotives home shop below the cab.
