[8D] While I am not able to take Amtrak for business travel, on daytime flights one can do limited railfanning from 6 miles up. The BNSF Transcon is one of the easiest lines to see from up in the air…on Tuesday I saw a BNSF train (probably double-stack) near Carrollton, MO.
The Kansas City yards are easy to spot, but it is usually difficult to actually see the trains themselves. But when the sun is reflected just right on the white or silver containers…
I spent the night in Carrolton on my cross country move a year and a half ago… It can be a surprising “hot spot” at times.
Having just driven from Denver during the day, I was beat, and wanted to sleep.
Train horns 3-4 times per hour, all night long, and the motel was like 1 block from NS’s line through there… (heh) I kept thinking about all the guys here who complain they haven’t got a good place to take in the action,…and had to wi***hey were there…
Even better was seeing the constant activity in NS’s Moberly facility the next morning. I dunno if I just happened along at an unusual moment, or if it’s always that busy. But it was very entertaining, right there on US Route 24 too, so there was plenty of “legit” reason to be there…
Hey, is anyone here fairly familiar with the area between Carrolton and KC? Particularly the area between Wellington and Dover? I’d like to ask about some things I saw as I drove past…(?)
