Frontier Days Train - 2011 Edition (5 IMG)

Before my tragedy (see my $785 Shot post), I had shot the northbound journey of the 2011 edition of the Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days Special. I had intended to shoot the southbound journey as well, but kind of lost my motivation after the bridge incident. So here are my northbound shots of the train. Sorry I wasn’t as prolific as in years past:

I love the deep blue skies in most of the color shots, and the B&W shot shows a well-prepared railfan…directly in your line of fire!

Oh, Chris–as for your lens, I wish you could have gotten a description of the car or a plate number. If the owner could be found, I’d be happy to give him (or his loving parents) a scare for you. I don’t take pictures, so I can only imagine how much the lens becomes a part of you. But I have lost bicycles and collarbones to those idiots.

I absolutely love the first and fourth shots. WOW, they are stunning! Beats anything I’m coming up with lately…

I had an absolute blast!

So sorry to hear about the lens! Eeek!

I carry insurance on all my gear…

I agree with what Brian said!

If I was a publisher, I would buy #1 and #4.

Your lead photo has great visual details that makes me keep looking back at it over and over…

I see Brian’s comment echoes my thoughts.

Just want to make sure you know I love your photos!

…Beautiful shots Chris…Just great high quality in all of them. Love the very distant shot. All of them {to me}, look up to your standards.

Thanks all, for the comments.

Erik, your shots are really nice. The shot at Terry Ranch Road makes me think you must have been very near me. Were you shooting a Canon 7D with a 24-105 by any chance?

Those are wonderful shots. I can imagine #2 and #3 being taken east of Calgary. The first four photo’s all set my imagination going. A nice way to start the morning.

Sure we must have been close… I was shooting down on the bridge. I was using a Nikon D3S with a Nikkor prime 85mm fixed 1.4G. My other camera with he long lens was on the wireless-remote shooting downrange into the curve. I love this spot! I need to do some hiking and try out some other angles next time.

Thank you for the nice compliment sir! The feeling is very mutual to all you guys. A fun hobby for sure!

Chris, love all your pictures, as usual. You always do a great job, composing your shots. Keep up the great work.
