Visited briefly with an engineer at Dublin, Tx. who said they were running quit a bit of frack sand to west Texas oil/gas fields. Former Santa Fe line from Ft. Worth to Brownwood, then to ? San Angelo? Or BNSF to Sweetwater-Lubbock area?
Who knows more about this?
Also, is the line over the old Santa Fe to San Angelo, and over the former Orient route to Presidio, being used much if any?
Interesting article with some nice updates on the old KCM&O! I’m happy to read that the line’s burned-out bridge over the Rio Grande, at Presidio, may get rebuilt in the next couple of years. If anyone wants to get a good history of the KCM&O, before and after the AT&SF takeover, I would recommend the book titled “The Orient”, published by the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society.
