So while headed back to my humble abode last night, I had occasion to cross the line out to Golden at Tennyson St. Lo and Behold, there on the point of the Beer Run was a Warbonnet GP60M! Didn’t catch a number, but I’m hoping he stays on this assignment for a day or two so I can grab a shot of him. If he does, I’ll be sure to post it in here.
Dadgummit…got some pictures of the beast today after lunch. Best looking Warbonnet I’ve seen in a long time. Still with ATSF paint, too (with a small BNSF stencil on the side of the cab).
Unfortunately, PBase (Where I keep my Photos) is not cooperating at the moment. Sooooo…if you guys want to see him, drop me a line, and I’ll e-mail the shots for now, and as soon as PBase begins cooperating, I’ll get them posted.
They’re not the greatest shots in the world since the scenery is a little dull (read: non-existent), and the sun is about 3 hours or so further than I would have liked (the nose is in shadows…10:00 or before would’ve looked nice).
Hopefully he’ll keep this assignment a couple more days, and be at Tennyson around 9:30-10:00 like he usually is.
Chris - my list doesn’t have that #, but we have had 104, 114, 118, 125, 127 & 153 through here. And since we are neighbors, maybe some of them will be in your area.
The 104 had an interesting wheel shape - I can’t remember what, but it was interesting enough I made a note of it on my list!
Thanks for the info! Will keep my eyes peeled. Managed to see another one this morning (#106) as the second unit of the switch job out of Longmont. Might have to head that way this afternoon since he should be in the sun where they tie them up.
Not sure what it is I like about them, but I always thought they were neat looking locomotives, and definately look good in the warbonnet scheme.
We were seeing only the H whatever colors (ugly orange) on 70’s and 9’s and the AC’s through most of the summer, but this fall we started seeing more warbonnets all of a sudden. There is starting to be a real variety through Lincoln finally. Now it is too cold to go watch! Bah!
