Function key for sounds levels?

I have both tsunami and QSI decoders in my locos. I want to be able to control the master sound levels by pressing a function key. Is this possible?

That’s one great thing about my MTH locos, is you can dynamically change the sound levels on the fly.

MRC decoders do this…

You will have to adjust CVs for the QSI and Tsunami decoders.

However, I do believe there is a way to adjust the mute volume (F8). That way you will have 2 sound levels, but no mute.

The QSI decoders allow you to customize the mute function (F8) via a CV. You can have anywhere from 50% of your current master volume setting in the decoder to zero volume. If you find that nearby idling locomotives make too much noise, you mute them, but only reduce the sound level to something you can tolerate indefinitely. I usually pick something between 15-30% of the programmed master volume level. It makes a big difference.

One of the current sound decoders, either LokSound or the new Paragons from BLI, I forget which right now, adjusts sound volume by pressing F8. The changes are something like full volume, half volume, half of that, and then entirely mute…again, I don’t have the specifics, but I have read recently of that F8 tapping feature that allows you to change volume levels.

Thanks, I’ll try that mute adjustment on the QSI decoders. I guess nothing can be adjusted with the tsunamis, that bites.

The paragons and Bluelines both use F8 and have like 6 or 8 levels.

I downloaded the Tsunami manual and a quick search on it seems to show that while you can separately adjust all the various sounds and the master volume by programming CVs, there doesn’t seem to be a “change on the fly” function. I also have a QSI equipped loco, but since I just installed my DCC tonight, I haven’t really looked into either one, yet.
