Funny coincidence

Downstairs working on the HO layout, running some trains back and forth, checking track and turnouts before major scenicing and ballasting. While I do this I usually have one of my ham radios on that is also set to receive train radio conversations. Was bringing up a train to go across a road crossing when I heard come through the radio in the background of the ongoing conversation 2 longs, a short, and a long blast on the horn. Perfect timing. Who needs on-board sound?

I love it when I hear the local excursion steamer while I’m running a steam engine on my layout–but the steam whistle is only heard on weekends.

Spooky coincidence.

It seems like there are a lot of hams who are also model railroaders. I heard one QSO back around Christmas on 75 meter AM where one guy was talking about his Lionel layout. The other guy told a story about his father’s TV repair business in the early days of TV, and how he and his friends used to take old CRT’s from the dumpster and go to the nearest bridge and try to drop them down the stack of the steam loco passing underneath.
