Not sure I’m understanding which noise you’re referring to.
You mean the whiney sound ? The dynamic brakes (fan).
Are you talking about the little noise that kinda “cherps” as the engine gets closer ?
If you notice the engine is bouncing a little as it goes by.Well I’ve heard this noise while operating DC locomotives and it seems to come from a combination of the rail, traction motors and the wheels.
At times especially on a heavy train I hear a big “whine” coming from the bottom below the cab.And that’s my best guess is the comination of what I mentioned.
I don’t think the locomotive in this video is in dynamic brake, could be wrong, but I think it was under power.[2c]
I’m half convinced the ‘chirp’ is a combination of poor audio and the locomotive bell.
Sounds to me like the train is coasting - neither under power or braking.
I hear dymanic brakes, a squeeking air brake, square wheels, a low rail joint, a locomotive air compressor, and the rail “singing” as the train rounds the curve.
Nick.
That’s why I wanted to know which noise he was asking about. Lots of sounds there.
