Further steps into On30

Hi all,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but my On30 Bradford Valley Lumber Company layout is well underway. I just thought I’d share my latest project, a conversion of a Bachmann Forney into a 2-4-0 tender engine.

Here’s what I started with:

This is how it turned out:

The colour on the smokestack and smokebox does actually match under the garage’s fluorescent lighting. Also, I managed to use the original fuel bunker shell for the tender, by grafting the front bumps (not sure what they’re called) from the kit shell onto it. This was after accidentally destroying it while trying to remove the coal load [:P]

Sparkling good job!

On30 has me intregued too.

I have been thinking about On30 top run on mY HO loop under the tree…what size radius works best for the forney? {Just curious if you know}.

An unmodified forney can go around 18" radius curves, but don’t expect to pull anything behind it if you’re using curves this tight - you’ll need to run it in reverse, as the front coupler doesn’t swing out as much as the rear one.
