furx?

What is with the bnsf stenciling furx on some of the sd40-2’s? I have seen a aboujt a dozen running with regular bnsf power.

I believe FURX stands for First Union Railway Leasing. I saw an H1 painted SD40-2 at Eola yard yesterday with the stenciling just below the cab window. FURX has evidently purcahsed some of the SD40-2’s from the surge fleet and is leasing them back to BNSF as needed. They also have quite a few 40’s in a very attracative green and silver paint scheme running around the country.

They are being leased to GE for BNSF’s use, account all the Dash 9’s breaking down. Amazing that GE leases EMD units and not their own!

I seen some on CSX also.

That’s interesting! Did you see the green and silver “Furbys” (FURX 3000-3052), or were they the old BNSF patch jobs?

All the FURX that I have seen on CSX have been green & silver.
CHESSIEMIKE

I see plenty of em here in Poplar Bluff, MO on the UP. UPTRAIN

The leases on these locomotives were up on BNSF, and First Union picked the the locoomotives from the owner of the lease. The ICE uses them for their trains instead of the old I+M power.

Between First Union and Helm Leasing, they are raking in the dough as the diesel lease market keeps on growing…Here in Atlanta, you’ll see all types, HELX/CEFX/FURX units running around.
