FYI, Christmas Train Show, Toronto Area

The Toronto Christmas Train Show will be on this weekend, Sat. Nov. 20/10, 11AM to 5PM and Sunday Nov. 21/10 10AM to 4PM.

Place: International Centre, Hall #3, 6900 Airport Rd. (S/E corner of Airport Rd. and Derry Rd.) You can enter off either street and best of all,

FREE PARKING.

The show is usually well attended with many vendors and Hobby and Model Train Shops from all over Southern Ontario. All scales in the past from Z to G and displays of how live steam loco’s work powered by compressed air. Usually several clubs in N Scale and HO Scale have several large modular layouts set up and running. There are usually a couple or three displays in S Scale and O gauge.

So if you are into anything Model Railroading wise, you should find it this weekend.

Hi

How many dealers are there? Which dealers usually attend? How is the crowd and the quality of the layouts? I am tempted to make the drive and go. I need more info though.

Modellers Choice, Canadian Model Trains and lots of smaller hobby shops and internet vendors come to this show. It’s not a bad show and has lots of variety in scales. Historical groups are always there as well. I always go on the Saturday morning after helping my club set up our layout at the Whitby show which for some STUPID REASON has fallen on the same weekend the last few years. Whitby is only a 1/2 hour east of the location of the Toronto show. It’s another good show that is worth visiting.

I forgot Whitby was this weekend, I guess I have plans now!

I just Googled the International Centre and the Hall that is being used this year, (Hall #3) covers an area of 100,000 Square Feet and they usually overflow into an adjoining area.

There is plenty to see and lots of vendors selling just about anything that you would care to buy. Also, in the past, a number of vendors have absorbed the the tax from purchases that I have made so that makes your buck go further.

Gord, I should be at my clubs layout around 3 if you want to stop by. I’m not bringing the GO Train Saturday so Liam won’t be able to run it. I’m just going to hang out, lol.

I went to the show. There were a couple of nice modular layouts. There were very few dealers. Overall it was a waste of time and money. The admission fee was $12. It wasn’t worth it.

I love u guys. rambo1…

what show is that? rambo1…

islean what show? rambo1…

I went to the show today. I thought there was some quality dealers. I picked some items from Otter Valley Railroad, an Intermountain/ decal dealer and a couple of other items.

Why were you so disappointed? Looking for something you can’t find or $12 did not return the value you expected?

Anyone take any photos of the show? After a recent holiday in Canada, and missing most thing model railway, except Central Hobbies in Vancouver and the model train layout in Victoria, I’d love to see some Canadian modeling.

cheers Eh

I went Saturday and was a little disappointed as well. It seems it is getting smaller and smaller ever year and the quality of the vendors is dropping as well. The amount of people selling used junk is getting larger though. I did find one great deal on a slot car but train wise there were no deals to be found. There were more layouts at the Whitby show then the Toronto one. I did score a CP Kato AC4400CW that I’ve been looking for and a Genesis car for a great price at the Whitby show so train wise the day wasn’t lost, lol. I got a good look at Rapido’s new LRC cars and I got to say they did a great job on them. I didn’t buy any though.

If don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for the Kato. I have had those units on my radar for a while.

90 Bucks and he threw in a 30 dollar Athearn Genesis car for free. Late Saturday he had a Kato CP SD40M-2 and a SD40 marked down to 70 bucks plus a free car of your choice. I almost bought them as well.

What a deal. And the rest I would have took! Do you have this guys name

Went to the Whitby Show with Liam, he had a blast. He managed to get one of the Oshawa guys to allow him to run a train. He was like a pinball going between all the layouts & stupid me, I forgot the step ladder so I wouldn’t have to keep picking him up!

Saw a few things I liked at the show, didn’t buy anything though. Spent my RR funds on eBay & a local freind before the show. Picked up a couple of Atlas Yellow box SOO for $50 & I’m pretty sure Liam is getting a 4-4-2 PA Tenshodo steam loco with tender for Christmas from Santa. Not sure how I know, I just have that feeling.

Gord

I almost did buy them as well just to resell. I don’t know what the guys name was, sorry.
