G C Laser kits ?

Hello I was looking for some new kits and found this site. http://74.220.29.68/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=GI&Category_Code=HSS

Has anyone worked with any of these kits ? How is the overall quality. Is the company easy to deal with ? Any info would be great. Thanks Frank

i have 2 of their kits (bought off e-bay). the cattle loading ramp and the small tool shed. recieved intact without problems. just like any kit, time spent building correctly is time well spent with a good looking product. i will confess, it is easier to paint the kit before glueing the pieces together.

I just finished assembling one of their truck body kits, I need to get some paint to match the truck, so no pics

The kit went together well, and there is a nice jig included to get the frames under the bed straight, level and correctly spaced. I had to sand the openings in the jig a bit to get the frame pieces to fit without havng to force them. The bolt heads on the uprights and boards in the bed are etched in the wood with the laser.

I have not tried any of their larger kits, but if this small kit is any indication they do a good job with the kit and the instructions.

I recently finished their milk shed kit. Very nice. Operating doors were a nice touch.

Take your time and you’ll be rewarded with a nice structure. My only complaint would be their instructions could be a bit larger but I understand their need to keep packaging small.

I have a few other of their kits to do (tool shed, cattle loading chute) and they look to be as nice as the one I just finished.

I’ll try to post some pics of the finished model.

Hello thanks for the info. They look like nice kits I just never heard of them. I am looking at the milk station and the windmill. Lateral-G that would be great if you have the time. Thanks again Frank

I like them a lot! I like the accessory kits, like the truck beds, & the crates. I have many of there depot kits & they are very nice. I would recommend them.

I put a post in the WPF this weekend showing one of the Corn beds, check it out, if you like …

Here ya go…

There are two ladders that attach to the platform but I haven’t added them yet.

hope this helps.

Hello That’s a nice looking milk shed I think I am going to get one. Thanks for posting the pics. Chad that truck bed is cool. Both of you guys did a very nice job on your kits. Thanks for all the help Frank

Do those doors come printed that way, or is some assembly required? The reason I ask is that technically, I think, the diagonal brace should go from the upper left to the lower right (hinge side). I believe that this is to keep the (prototype) door from sagging.

Seems that the diagonal is correct to me. The support for the lower door portion is attached to the side frame on the upper hinge side. There by holding the lower, outer portion of the door up.

The doors require assembly (adding the Z bracing to each side).

I followed the instructions given in the kit as to the orientation. Guess I screwed up. Thanks for pointing out the mistake, but there’s nothing I can do about it now. Perhaps I’ll have to buy a new kit now and rebuild …

It’s always something…[*-)]

Have you looked at RSLASERKITS or Evergreen Hill Designs. They have laser cut kits. RSLaserkits even makes custom models.

Well, I could be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure I’m correct. I think the idea is that with the diagonal as shown on the model the diagonal will be in tension and will be prone to being pulled apart. On the other hand, if the diagonal goes the other way it will be in compression and harder to pull apart or sag. Here is a link to a picture of a similar door except that there are two braces (diagonals). You’ll notice that both of the diagonals start at the top outer edge of the door and go toward the lower hinge edge of the door: http://www.secrets-of-shed-building.com/building_a_shed_door.html

After rethinking it, i believe you are right. Compression is better than tension in this case. [:)]

FWIW the diagonal goes the other way on the inside of the door…

Hello I got my milk station kit from GC laser today. This is a nice kit and looks like a fun build. I did not get the windmill and chicken coup from them. I got it from woodland scenic. I am not real happy with it I expected better quality. They are white metal kits they misshapen and a ton of flash. So I will clean them up. Thanks for all the pics and info I will post some pics as I work on it. Have a nice day Frank

I hope you have a good time with them, they are nice kits! One thing to note is the ‘front-back’. & ‘forward-rear’, orientation of some of the parts, (since they are two sided) after that, all is well !

Enjoy!
