G & D 40' boxcar

Among the treasures that my dad handed over to me when he finally gave up actlively modeling was a box of kits that he never got around to building. Inlcuded among them was as 40’ AAR Gorre and Daphetid boxcar. It was made by IMWX, Innovative Model Works.

As you can see, it is nicely detailed kit. I admit that I’ll never use the car on my railroad and thought it might see better service in the hands of a true John Allen admirer or collector. So, if you would truely appreciate this kit and find a good use for it, it’s yours for the asking. Send me a PM and I’ll send it to the individual with the best story.

(I would be very disappointed to see it end up on EBay.)

I believe this was No.1 of the NMRA’s “Heritage Collection” series. I think the first six or seven are no longer available thru the NMRA.

That would make sense. The box does say “Heritage Collection Series 1” on it and my dad would have been an NMRA member when he bought it. The copyright on the instruction sheet, which is generic, says 1991.

BTW: Any idea what happened to IMWX? The kit appears to be very similar to older RoundHouse kits that my dad gave me.

This was done for the NMRA’s Heritage series of cars honoring deceased model railroaders. This car was produced in a number of scales - HO, S, O, N, G and I think Z. It is currently up to number 18. Sadly S was dropped with #15 and O, G, Z were dropped with #16. There;s a companion line - Legend for model railroaders still alive (at least at time of issue). It’s up to #7, but #6 and #7 are only HO and N.
