At the young age of 52, with 32 yrs. on the G.N., B.N., and now the disgraceful B.N.S.F., I will be able to retire at age 60 instead of 62 if G.W. sign’s the legislation passed by the Senate and the House. I could quit much sooner, but with the price of Health Coverage etc. I will probably stick it out. Hey George…just sign the darn bill! Thank’s…Hommie
“Dubya” signed the bill last night, Dec. 21. Boy, was that a battle! Don’t know if it will help me, though, I’m already retired on disability.
It would depend on your circumstances, length of employment, etc. If a standard Railroad Retirement pension is greater or better than your current disability pension, you’ll benefit if you can make the change at 60 instead of 62. I know the disability folks are carried on the seniority roster until they reach retirement age, so there is some difference, even if it’s only bookkeeping.
Having spent my railroad career in managament (mostly sales and marketing), I am not on any seniority roster. But, under disability, outside earnings are limited to $400. per month, over which I lose my whole pension, whereas someone on normal retirement can earn up to $950. per month without any deduction fron their pension. The RRB amount paid me is the same.
