Gallup Sub traffic frequency

Since April 30 I’ve been staying in Gallup, NM while working on temp. assignment at the hospital in Crownpoint. The old Santa Fe Gallup Sub is across the street from where I’m staying (I’m literally at MP 159). Seems to be a potload of traffic (and I noticed one thing- if you hate GE diesels and stack trains, you’re in the wrong area  ).

So, the question I have is this- what’s the normal daily frequency of trains on this part of the Transcon?

I have heard that as many as 80 per day use that line, but that seems too high. When I lived in Flagstaff from 1978-1988 a huge day was 50 trains through.

I would say 80-90 a day is normal.

I was in Flagstaff this spring…11 trains in 2 hours. It is pretty serious railroading.
