Garbage Wars

Railroads, exempt from local laws, competing for garbage moving business. Finally, a product New York can produce cheaply and export to the rest of the country. [:)]

Story

Picture 4 shows the large hoppers used to hold garbage, pulled by what looks like a New York & Greenwood Lake GP9 in EL paint scheme.

If I were Mr Wilson I’d be concerned with waking up one day and finding a horse’s head on my bed.

Everybody makes trash…nobody wants to deal with it.

“If I were Mr Wilson I’d be concerned with waking up one day and finding a horse’s head on my bed.”

Having had lived in Jersey for 35 years, I’m surprised the Tony Soprano type contingent
hasn’t dealt with this situation of moving in on anothers’ territory in a more pro-active
manner.

Virginia imports a lot of New Yorks garbage on CSX (a very odiferous train to be sure if you are railfanning). The landfill owners have said that they have enough space for about 300 more years, and then they will have to come up with another place to put the stuff.

There’s gold in that thar trash.

Try working those trains. Or even better, riding a shove! Very nasty…

I definitely do not envy the crews in the summer. [:(]

I wonder if they actually eat when their schedule allows[dinner].

If you’re on the train, you are fine as long as you are moving. Pity the crew behind you, though…

Of course if it’s a shove job, all bets are off.
