BNSF will build a large intermodal facilty approx. 30mi SW of Kanasas City on the transcon. What can be expeected in the way of rail traffic and what the facility will actually turn out like.
Just a guess but probably juts like the recent one opened outside Stockton by the BNSF. It was designed for trailers and containers going to and from the Bay area from the east. The one near Stockton has several stradle lifts for the trailers and containers from rail to highway and vise versa. The one in Stockton covers a large area and has plenty of room for expansion when it becomes necessary. It sits right next to the mainline just southeast of Stockton and is served by numerous trains daily from the east and originates eastbound trains as well. In Tracy to the west is a large UPS Hub and many trailers are destined to and from this facility as well to the Stockton, Sacramento, Modesto and as far as Fresno areas in the valley. It also serves Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, and other Bay area communities. Recently some of the truckers that haul in and out of their have been complaining about the fuel prices and they want more money for picking and dropping the loads. Another trucking company offered to to it for the same money and it looks like many owner operators in this area are going to be out of work.
