Has anyone successfully used Atlas selectors on a layout using Gargraves track?
The brand of track you use makes no difference. At one time I tried using Atlas HO selectors for my three rail and one by one they failed. Not designed for O ga. power. They do make some now for O ga. but are pricey. Find some switches from some other source like Radio Shack or hdwe. store. All will work better than HO ones.
Thank you Sir James. I was afraid that might be the case.
I have never used Atlas selectors on O gauge, but I used them on my N-scale and they were always a pain. I finally changed them out to regular toggle switches.
I have taken the Gargraves switch machine apart(DZ Industries makes them) and it has a small motor inside it that looks like an H.O. racing car motor, so the power demand will most likely be higher than what an Atlas H.O. switch controller is designed for. The Atlas H.O. switch motor is only a small solenoid or low current electomagnet the moves back & forth.
Using a small single pole momentary switch, rated at 6 amps 120 volts, from Radio Shack or other electrnics parts store might be cheaper than buying the Atlas O gauge switch controls.
