GarGraves track

Will GarGraves O gauge track line up with the Lionel Fastrack using there (Lionel’s) adapter, or would I be better off buying Lionel O gauge track?

Fast track will mate to O style track. Gargraves native profile matches to O-27. You can always shim up a section of GG to match O profile and use the Lionel O to FastTrack adapter section. (There are also O style pins that you use to replace the standard GG pins to mate the GG track to the adapter).

Far as I know you must adapt to Lionel O gauge track then adapt to GarGraves track, you may be able to mate the tracks without adapters but you will end up with oversized openings on the GarGraves track. One other note about GarGraves track is that it can be damaged easier than O gauge tubular or FasTrac when a derailment occurs. GarGraves is more realistic looking, outside rails are insulated from each other and this is a major differance from Lionel track, you must supply power to both outside rails or you can use one rail as an insulated section, also GarGraves makes NO insulating pins for thier track, I am using cut-down S gauge insulating pins for my GarGraves track.
Ross Custom Switches makes GarGraves compatable switches(NO adapter pins needed) and these switches are more life-like looking. Both GarGraves and Ross switches can be used with the DZ1000 or DZ1008 or DZ 2500 switches machines, DZ is made by Z-Stuff industries and can be purchased on Ross Custom Switch website.

GG to O pins exist, so use the Fastrak to O adapter and then use GG to O pins. GG DOES make insulating pins for their track (if you don’t believe me, check out their website).

During my recent trip to the factory, Gargraves showed off their new insulating pins.

Should be available at your LHS.

If you don’t want to “splurge” for the GG insulating pins, you can use a round (not square) toothpick cut to length for insulation. It fits very nicely in the GG opening.
