Google maps puts the top right corner of the facility at US20 (5th Ave.) and Chase St. It also labels the facility as the Budd Company. Yup, that Budd Company.

Interestingly enough, the Google map sat picture shows a light loco on the northwest side of the oval track. It looks to be painted red. There is another unit in with the cars near the plant itself. I assume these are some form of passenger cars, butt can’t get close enough detail from space to be certain.

700 Chase St.

Looks like quite an operation. They must have a healthy maintenance contract.

If you zoom in with Google Earth, you can see the tracks used to cross the road and curve upward into the other line. Look closely and you’ll see those tracks are still in once you get across the road. Looks like the company has been there awhile.

After I backed up a notch on the photo, I found that it’s just east of the Gary Municipal Airport and is fronted by the Indiana Toll Road. My guess is that it’s the American Bridge warehouse.

What is the Budd Company? What do they produce?

Its the plant where they make the “WHITE BOXCARS”[alien][alien]
