GE AC6000CW

Hi gang, thinking of buying a Broadway Ltd Paragon 2 GE AC6000CW with DCC and sound in UP livery. Since UP is converting the originals back to the 4400hp primer mover, do they sound the same as a AC4400CW or do they have a different “chatter”?

I know that the AC6000CW has two exhaust stacks and that the model will need to changed on that, but is it worth doing all the work if it does not sound right. I thought about getting a CSX version but I have been told that they are all stored at the moment.

Any help would be useful.

You can buy the CSX version with a clear conscience. They are back in service. I spotted 628 in Conneaut, OH a couple weeks ago running solo with a train of empty ethanol tankers. Several of my friends report similar sightings around the CSX system.

According to the Wiki, the CSX units are back because the original prime movers have been replaced with GEVO 6000 HP units. They don’t sound the same as the original GE/Deutz units. The 4400 HP prime movers wouldn’t sound the same either.

They do sound different… but you would haev to pay real close attention to notice it. There are still quite a few UP C60AC’s left with the HDL engine in them

According to Wikipedia, only four of CSX’s AC6000CW have been done so far but the rest will be done over time at Waycross, GA, and I expect they could be called ES60AC but GE and CSX are keeping the same designation. I expect more will have been done by the time you will read this.

With UP converting theirs back to 4400hp, CSX will be the only RR in North America to own these loco’s so I will be buying a CSX version to go on my version of Donner Pass lol.
