GE SD70

IF THEY ARE HEADING FOR A WRECK HOW DO THEY GET OUT OF THE CAB. THE DOOR ON THE FRONT IS THE ONLY DOOR I SEE AND I SURE WOULD NOT WANT TO LEAVE THAT WAY?

Like to see a photo of a GE SD70.

Me too!

There is a door on the aft engineer side of the cab.

A true hybrid loco!

Like that pickup: the Sierra-150!

Enough with the caps… GE DOES NOT MAKE the SD70…wonder who you learned locomotive models from…

C’mon guy, be nice to the newbie.[]

Welcome to the group. Just so you know, EMD is the maker of the the “SD” locos as well as “GP” and others. GE is recognized as the maker of “Dash 7, 8 and 9, AC and ES” locos as well as others. I recommend the book “Rail Power” by Steve Barry to expand your basic knowledge of modern motive power. The book also covers most U.S. steam locomotives and electrics and how to identify them.

I hope that you find this information helpful and once again, welcome to the group.

I meant my comment tongue-in-cheek. Welcome aboard! We do like to tease each other on here from time to time…please don’t take offense.

Yes, well I’ve often wondered where you got that ridiculous and sacrilegious quote in your signature line [#dots]

if and i mean if the other door in the cab behind the engineers seat isnt mangled up…you can try and get out that way… depending on how bad the crash is…that door may not be useable… so you have to try the windows… if they are broken out and you can get out of them…if not…your just going to have to wait for rescue personel to come along and cut you out of the cab…

about 8 years ago there was an incident that took place at one of our major terminals… an amtrak train misstook a signal (missread the inication should have went restricted speed…but took it as a medium clear) and smashed into the rear end of a train pulling into the yard… they hit so hard that it bent the frame of the engin up so bad that none of the doors would work…and the crew in the engin and to be cut out by the fireman with the jaws of life…luckly there only had minor injurys…

csx engineer

Do trains have seat belts.

Gary

Negative on that Gary, and guys, how about you all stop being jerks and realize not all people can tell who makes what locomotive.

I was just wondering about the seat belts, I’ve seen people severely injured in low speed accidents. I don’t get to see the inside of locomotives on a regular basis. I wasn’t being a jerk about who makes what, not everyone does.

Gary

Welcome to the Forums, as was said, some of us do like to have some fun; some more

than others, or normal.

Here are a few shots of an SD70ACe taken this summer. Besides the “front Door”,

there is at least one behind the engineer’s side, and one in front of the conductor’s side.

No seatbelts that I know of.

You misunderstand me Gary. I answered your question, then went off and was refering to the forum regulars who were snickering and laughing etc about our new members post. I wasnt refering to you as a jerk.

YOU ARE RIGHT…BOY I BLEW THAT ONE BIG TIME. WHAT I WAS TRYING TO TALK ABOUT IS A GE EVOLUTION SAFTY CAB. I WANT TO THANK ALL THAT SENT ME INFO. ALL I COULD SEE WAS JUST A WINDOW AND NO DOOR ON THE CONDUCTOR SIDE OF THE CAB. I NEVER COULD SEE THE OTHER SIDE. THANKS FOR THE PHOTO’S.

Loco, you may wish to edit your comment to reflect that there is no room for a door in front of the conductor on any wide-nose locomotive.

Thank you Carl for pointing out that I was wrong, the door on that side really is in the

middle, not actually on anbody’s side. That door leads to the nose, to the front of the

locomotive, (through the nose) to the front door.(and smelly toilet)

There was no misinformation or teasing intended.

Is it a full moon, or pick on the new member day?[xx(]

TRAINCATS : Welcome to the forum. For what it’s worth> typing in all capitals on the internet is considered to be yelling, and elicits a lot of animosity from some types of people. You’d be better off typing everything in lower case letters like that poet. Is he e.b.white, or e.e. cummins?

I, myself, have always wondered about the engineer’s seat. Is it an air-ride seat like in a truck, or is the ride so smooth that it’s unneccesary?

[#ditto]
Good question.

Up until 1994 General Electric and General Motors-ElectroMotive Division Locomotives had very distinct appearances. Then in 1995 with the introduction of the SD80MAC and the SD90MAC the GM-EMD units begin to resemble the GE DASH 8 Wide Cabin Locomotives. Now with standardized windows and both GE and EMD unit having thick radiators, it is no wonder that many people have a hard time telling them apart. Form follows function.
