GE Universal Models

I am interested in finding models of GE locos used in foreign railways of the world. In particular present day Indonesian railways.

The photos below show the two mainline loco classes used on Java’s railways. CC201 is a reasonably standard GE U18 (I think). CC203 has a streamlined cab and might not be found elsewhere. I think it is known as U20C by GE.

Can anyone suggest sites that would point us where to look for models to represent these locos?

The gauge here is 3’6" (1067mm) so the ideal models would be Sn3.5 or HOn3.5. However, HO would be OK as well. For that matter any scale.

Thanks to anyone who can suggest where to find either prototype or model leads.

Brazilian manufacturer Frateschi has some GE export types in their range, that may be of some use. Another possibility is the old Lima model of the SAR Class 34, it is also a GE export unit. There are some cottage/small manufacturers from Greece and Slovenia who also do resin/brass GE types. I’ll look up their names for you.

John,

Railmaster Exports has a model of an U26C available in Sn3.5. Check them out at www.railmaster.co.nz

Thanks guys.

For others who are interested, find Frateschi at http://www.frateschi.com.br

They even have a dealer in Indonesia! Must look him up.

I look forward to hearing of those Greek and Slovenian industries.

I have already been in touch with John at Railmaster. My Indonesian colleaugues tell me the U26C is quite a bit longer in the wheel base.

Hi John,
Here’s a New Zealand GE U26C with the same 3’6" gauge you have!

These are available in HO from Frateschi or you can get them as a NZ120 kit from NZ (TTn3.5 = 1/120 scale running on N gauge track)

cheers

Hi Alister,

That is a great photo site. Thanks.

I am still working on my NSW HO layout. More correctly about to start so my trains can turn a wheel. After that the Indonesian scene. Still thinking which scale.

Here a link with some anglo coment if your espangol is not that hot.
