[?] Anyone experiencing gear noise with Spectrum 2-6-6-2? At times mine seems to make excessive noise, other times not so bad. I’ve looked at Bachmann’s enclosed exploded view and I find it vague. Started to explore front gearbox and access seems blocked(not access friendly).
I have other Spectrum’s, (2)2-8-0’s, and while they’re not the quietest locos they are quieter than the 2-6-6-2. Don’t want to pack it off to Bachmann unless complaint justifies it.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have a Spectrum 2-8-0 that made a grinding, screaching noise occasionally that I thought was going to lead to terminal failure. It sounded, as near as I could tell, like it was coming from the gears. Before I had a chance to open it up and inspect and lube the gears, the noise quit. It runs quietly and pulls well. I can only guess at this point that there may have been some flash on the gears that took some break-in to resolve. I’ve had the engine for about three weeks at this point. Hope that wailing banshee of a noise never comes back.

Kidding aside, glad to hear your noise was banished from the RR. [:D] Speculation about gear seems credible. Like I mentioned in follow up post will inquire of Bachmann reps at Big-E show about the unwanted audio.(Please, please, don’t snow)
