Gee whiz, I sure need to follow my own advice...........

Hi!

A couple of weeks ago a newbie to the Forum complained about how long it took for sellers to send out stuff he ordered.

In a moment of sarcasm, I scolded him for “not ordering earlier”, etc., etc.

Well, now I’m in the same situation, waiting for decoders ordered for some Stewart F units. I should have ordered them much earlier, but I procrastinated. And now I’m frustrated…

ENJOY (if you have all the parts)!

One more reason to mourn the demise of the LHS.

I used to be able to jump in the car for the 15 minute ride to any one of three close by shops.

Now, with all three gone, I have to place an on line order and wait 5 to 7 business days for it to arrive.

Right…A shop could be a down right handy place.

However.

I usually heard that old song and dance routine.

I sold the last (fill the blank) I had yesterday (yeah right)…I can order it and it should be here next week…[banghead]

I think no need…I can do the same without having to make a return trip.

Why does it seem(well at least to me) the best shops close while the old dusty stock shops live on?

Yup! And sometimes you decide you need something that you’re not very familiar with & you’d like to get an in person, hands-on look at it before parting with your money. With only 2 hobby shops left in this entire state and it’s a 180 mile round-trip drive to the nearest one, you really can’t do it. So, you have to take a bit of a gamble by ordering online.

North Harris county (Houston) was blessed with two very capable train shops. One closed its doors after years of continuous downsizing, and the other is a major chore to utilize (I won’t go into detail, but if you live in the area you know what I mean)…

For glues and non RR paints, and scratchbuilding supplies, the local Michaels and Hobby Lobby pretty much fill the bill.

Well, now you see why I always have at least 150 half-finished projects going. That way, when I don’t have the parts for one, I can pick up another.

If I can find it on my workbench under the other 149 projects.

That’s why I usually buy parts, strip wood, paint, etc. at train shows. I have to be my own LHS. I probably (certainly?) have way too much stuff, but I almost always have in stock whatever I need.

Enjoy
