GEEPS?

i model the 50s and 60s and would like to know what types of GP series locos where on the scene then… i know GP7,9, 20 and 30s where but not sure about 35s and up eg when GP35s where built, GP40s, GP50s and GP60s, any help would be good.

thanks OZJIM

I think the GP35s came around 1963. The GP40 came in 1966 if I remember correctly. The GP50s and GP60s did not exist until the 1980s. Also, the -2 upgrade was 1972, so a GP40-2 would also be inappropiate.

thanks ericsp

Jim: I see you are modeling Santa Fe and Union Pacific. For the time period you are modeling the Santa Fe rostered the GP7, GP7B, GP9, GP20, GP30 and GP35. The Union Pacific rostered the GP7, GP9, GP9B, GP20, GP30, GP30B and GP35. The Union Pacific also had a number of turbocharged GP9s called Omaha GP20s.

Hello James, Off the top of my head, so you might want to verify this. GP 7,9, 20 had the EMD 567 Engine. The GP 35 circa, 1963 was equipped with the 567 D-3-A, which was the final version of the 567 prime mover. In designing the first Geeps,(GP-7) EMD designer *** Dillworth stated that he wanted to design an engine so ugly, that officials would not want it around headquarters, but out on the road and branches where it could do good work. History shows us the Geeps have been wildly successful.
