Genesis GP15-T - poppet valve sound playing continuously

Hi All,

I have a new Genesis GP-15T with factory (Soundtraxx) sound that is playing the poppet valve sound continuously about once a second. Not only does not this not seem right but the constant pffft-pffft-pffft becomes distracting after a while.

Athearn’s response is that the sounds are recorded from a real loco and therefore correct.

I have reset the decoder a number of times to the factory (Athearn) defaults with no change. I don’t really want to have to turn the poppet valve sound off altogether.

Is this really what a GP-15T sounds like or do I have some strange issue? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Here is the SoundTraxx CV listing for the sound decoder used in that model:

It appears that the frequency of the poppet valve cannot be changed, but the volume can be adjusted.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply. As you point out, controlling the volume appears to be the only option.

Still interested to hear if my loco is doing something different from other GP-15T’s out there…?

Thanks for that David - much appreciated. That is what I thought it should sound like.

If it doesnt sound like the video after a reset, return it to where you purchased it. If you cant do that, send it over to Athearn…they will make it right.
