Genesis loco sound

Sorry if this has been covered before. I have three Athearn Genesis F3’s with sound. Since I run on DC, I use the little transmitter that comes with the loco’s to activate the sound. Problem is, I have to practically touch the loco with the remote’s antenna to get it to work. I put a new battery in the Tx already, but thats about it. Any tips or tricks for increasing the range?? Would wrapping tin foil around the antenna help?

No replies? Well, how about this. If I buy an Athearn Genesis without sound and want to add sound, but want to run it on DC only can this be done?? Would it cost more to do this than to just buy one with sound already?

Do you have an adversity to DCC? For the amount of money you are spending in sound equipped locos, you could be well equipped in DCC.

In terms of DC and sound, you have touched on one of the issues.

Yeah you need to upgrade to DCC, you are missing out on the fun of controlling the sounds.
