I have just been checking out F units by both manufacturers. They are both about the same price, arround £185 for the A+B units. I would like to know which would be the best bet and why !

The grab irons are finner on the Genisis units, which helps the overall look. Gen also has a more correct nose shape. As far as I know the Intermountain units don’t have constant intensity lighting. Genesis does. They probably run quieter too. The Intermountains are good locos, but in this case Genesis is slightly superior.
I would go with the Genesis F units.
MORE sophisticated lighting and AT&SF paint job on the F-7. GENESIS
BETTER drive’S - INTERMOUNTAIN
Both have see thu griils. IM now has metal handrails.
GENESIS has CV light’s IM Inncandecent’s
Re ATSF paint sheme’s … IM has BLUE BONNET
GENESIS’ Red Warbonnet F-7 plated to simulate S.Steel.
50/50 GENESIS for SHOW. I.M. for GO
I agree with the Genesis for show and the IM for GO for sure.
The Genesis can be improved by replacing the wheel sets with Kato or Stewart wheel sets and it really makes a difference. I have fourteen or so SF Genesis units and all have had the wheel sets replaced to eliminate the Athearn wobble or whatever you call somewhat square wheels. I really prefer my units not to rock and roll on perfectly even track and most Genesis really have unround wheels or wheels that wobble.
The shells are the best and look better and are more accurate than my Overland SF units.
They will run super if you want to spend a little money and a little time to improve them.
They also have better contours on the numberboards than the IM units.
Just my thoughts. Both are a great improvement of any that came before…
Genesis for sure, my ABBA set of UP F3s (freight) run sweet and have no wobble.
Thanks for your opinions guys. I reckon the BLI F units will be worth checking out , when they arrive before making any decisions. I have just been looking at the new BNSF logo at www.sd45.com. The quality of the pictures is outstanding, if youve not seen them yet its well worth a look. I am going to check out the rest of the site over weekend.
