Genius is a great movie, Oscar bait, with great care in scenic details to recreate the 1930s atmosphere. But what a shock to see Maxwell Perkins adn Thomas Wolfe (Colin Firth and Jude Law respectively) board a New Haven commuter train to New Canaan from a gate on the lower level of Grand Central Terminal only to step through…into a British train shed with vintage British carriages hauled by UK steam. What a derailment!
Similarly, I have seen on the History Channel (owned by A&E Network) and on other (off ‘alphabet’ Network Channels; especially when the subject is American railroads, or to do with railroad subject matter that would ‘support’ a ‘Film File’ clip to illustrate it. The Stories about “The Men Who Built America” is an example of the subject of using English Railway Trains to illustrate a clearly, American story.
They seem to think that insertion of clips of ‘English’ steam engines, or ‘English-style’ passenger carriages, is perfectly OK. I would guess in their minds," Railroad Stuff" is suitable, because they do not know, or care about the differences between Countries or Continents…“A Train is a Train?”
Around here, on TRAINS FORUMS there has been more than one discussion on the subject of the incompetent reportage of the ‘Media’ as concerns railroads, and their operations.[sigh]
OK, off my [soapbox]
