The canyon area that hides my helix, is made from Bragdons Geodesic scenery. The first two part resin is a thin layer poured into a latex mold. After setting up (20 min) a thicker two part foam layer is pored over that, it swells 40 times so this is another thin layer.
This mold will set up very hard so when its not stickey remove it from the mold. Apply to wit a hot glue gun, if it sets before one getit in place, a hair driers heat will soften it.
The trick part is painting it, any one can get a fantastic color of rocks, from granit to southwest sandstone.
Granted this stuff is expensive it is fun to work with and the results to me negates the cost of it, I split the cost of mold with other modelers and in this way we purchased several molds that complimented each other.
Its extreamely hard to find the finished seams and best of all if ones over paint it one can redo it.
Very few people use this product and thought I would share it. Downside is very pricey, upside…see for your self…( havent finished the track detail yet) .
excuse my typing as my fingers amd eyesoght isnt what they use to be LOL…John
jwar, your photo shows impressive detail. I have set through Bragdon’s clinics at regional and national conventions several times and the material is definitely impressive - and, as you said, just a little on the pricey side. I am designing a new layout which must be superlight for portability and I might just give his product a try when I get around to this new project.
Again, a very impressive photo; you have done a spectacular job.
Thanks for sharing your details. I’ve seen their products on their website because I buy their weathering powders. That is an impressive set of mountains. My time is worth money too, so sometimes the higher cost is offset by great results with less effort and/or mess.
Glad to see that you are having a great time with the Geodesic Foam from Bragdon Enterprises. (www.bragdonent.com) We are using it on our layout. I have found the inside of the tunnels look more realistic than with plaster cloth. It should be better for attaching trees as well.
