I screwed up! Did a bunch of my scenery with plaster(POP) and then stained it with green watered down craft paint. In hind sight I should have used tan paint instead to simulate dirt. Tried to paint tan over green and stopped immediately.
Would that white gesso paint cover the green so I could do a fresh tan color?? I’m looking for a flat porous finish. Or do you think I’d be better off mixing a thin batch of POP and brushing it over the green stain???
Just paint over it with latex paint. You can sprinkle ground foam or other material on the paint as well while it’s still wet for texture.
As long as your brown and green were water-based, there’s no reason why gesso wouldn’t work. You could mix some texture paste into it as well. That would toughen it up and add some nice ‘tooth’.

The Gesso won’t cover anything, its semi transparent. Its has marble dust in it and Its used to prime canvas etc. You’re best bet IMO is to get a can of water base KILZ. Its a very good primer ,will even cover marker. BILL
That’s what I was wondering. Thanks!
Well that´s not entirely true, it depends on wich brand of gesso. Nowadays I only use Winsor & Newton´s gesso, and it covers really well actually.
I have had success mixing it with some tube pigments and some fine Paint´n tex. It makes a good ground base.
