When did RRs start painting the grabirons on their cabooses with “safety yellow”? I am particularly interested to authenticating a couple of NYC Walther cabooses I have and was curious when the practice started. Thanks!

You are going to have to do some research of NYC pictures. I’m confident that someone in the histroical society can probably tell you down to the month for any given caboose. By the way, not all railroads used yellow. Some used white and some used black dependent on the body color. Some even used checkered handrails so it is an individual basis. being a PRR guy I know nothing of the NYC and can’t help you other than that.
