Getting bored here

As of late I’ve been haven’t been finding much threads of interest on this forum, especially when it comes to discussing locomotives. Most of the locomotive discussion seems to be on steam locomotives, and I am not a steam modeler. Does anyone know of a discussion forum that focuses more on diesels or a forum that has more diesel modelers?

Try railroad line forums. I googled it.

The Diesel Detailer may be of interest to you. Cedarwoodron

I agree, it has been very slow here lately. It’s got to be the summer. I know if I wasn’t on holidays I wouldn’t be posting. I’d be working on a customer car or actually working at my real job.

So what do you want to talk about as far as diesels?

Speak up, speak up, the floors all your’s. What do you want to discuss? We’re waiting!

I’ve noticed this too, dog days of summer is partly to blame.

I still check in now and then but have been spending more time actually modeling…

maybe other are too?

I know I am.

Aloco,

Sometimes you may have to be the initiator.

I enjoy discussng:

EMD Cowl units: SDP40f, F40C, F/ FP45s, F40PH, - focus on the body styling and differences between these units.

EMD Covered Wagons: Southeastern roads E6 and E7 individual histories through retirement. South and northeastern F units. History, Assignments, surviving units. Differences between phases.

EMD: Six axle hoods: SD45, SD40-2 anything about them. Interested in units with “L” windshields. Also, high nosed units from Southern.

EMD: Canadian "Draper Taper" units.

GE: U-Boats. Styles, famous exhaust “chug” sound, body spotting features, advantages/disadvantages compared to similarly horsepowered units. BiCentennial SCL 1776.

GE: Amtrak P30CH

Alco: RS 1, 2, and 3. Phases, differences between same model on various railroads, owners, units still existence.

Baldwin: Any switchers.

I’m not just a passenger car fan [:D]

I’m quite sure most of us regulars find it slow these past couple of weeks. I happens every year at this time, and for the same reason. Summer beckons, interests change, other important things need to be done, it’s too hot in the train room, yada, yada, yada…

The old Atlas forum folded, but there is a ‘rescue’ forum using the Atlas name if you google it. They are die-hard diesel fans. modelrailroadforums is largely about diesel.

However, you can always start your own topic of interest here. Why not? Take an active role instead of a passive one…take some initiative and introduce/launch a topic. We have tons of diehard diesel fans here. Look at the right sidebar…an MTH Alco, and up at the masthead a nice F unit.

Just in case nobody else has noticed, there’s about 68 hours a day of Olympic coverage on now.

Been going on for almost two weeks, and will shortly wind down. Then maybe a few people will wander back from across the pond to get into the conversations again.

I’m afraid that I can’t add much to a discussion of North American diesel locomotives. None of them run on 1067mm gauge rails.

Correction: I did see a siderod-fitted center cab B-B diesel at Itazuke AB (Fukuoka-ken, Kyushu) in the 1950s. It was painted in JNR style and carried a DD10 number, but I was told that it had been provided by the US Army Transportation Corps right after WWII. Manufacturer???

I saw this thread yesterday, not long after it started, but did not have a chance to respond until now.

Sure, summer time means slow time on the forums as vacations, outdoor pursuits, and the Olympics vie for our time.

But, aloco, instead of looking for another forum, start up some posts on diesels instead of a post saying that these forums bore you.

What kind of diesels are you running?

Which types and which brands do you like?

Which types and which brands do you dislike?

What are your favorite road names?

What road names and types of diesels do you wish the manufacturers would produce?

What kinds of posts on diesels would interest you?

I suspect that more forum members model diesels than steamers.

Get us started.

aloco?

Hi!

To the OP… What do you want to talk about??? It’s real easy to accomplish, just ask!

For this Forum to work, there has to be give and take - hopefully with participants working both sides of the equation. I am sure there are plenty of folks here that would love to discuss diesels - and I suggest you start up a thread or two on the subject.

Oh, one more suggestion… If you are talking scale models, question here. If its Lionel or Flyer, go to the CTT forum. If its modern diesels, go to the Trains forum. And if its about older diesels or history, go to the Classic Trains forum…

I have a dual-era layout, 1930s and 1960s. If it makes you feel any better about your favorite locomotives, I spent some time last weekend putting all my steamers into the roundhouse and pulling out my diesels to haul the trains.

The Olymipics are on TV? Oh, I guess I would have turn the TV on? No, I think I’m headed back to the train room - which has plenty of air conditioning - it is after all August in Maryland. Going outdoors means walking from the house to the pool - otherwise I’m indoors.

Perception is a funny thing! From my point of view I see mostly threads with people talking about newer era equipment and not the steam era! However, it’s pretty easy to start a thread on the subject your interested in and see what kind of response you get.

On the other hand, had I made the statement “Getting bored here” many folks would have responded "Glad to hear it, now get out of here!

Bored? Build a kit.

Huh? What’s that? [8-|]

That’s the problem. It’s always about steam or diesel nowadays. How about electric commuter trains combined with the Faller Car system.
