Getting ready to go DCC

Well;

I’m getting ready to take the plunge and start with DCC. I’m going to start with the Bachmann EZ Command first. Learn how to do everything with it before going to a more expensive system. If I’m going to fry something, I’d rather it be something cheap that I can replace relatively cheaply.

The layout will also be analog block control because I have a lot of standard DCC locos that I’ll want to run.

I’ve been in this hobby for going on 40 years now, but I’m all thumbs when it comes to DCC and they’re the size of King Kong’s big toes.

Any advice?

Jeffrey, have fun. In reality the most likely things to ever fry in DCC are decoders that are not installed correctly. If you are planning to instal decoders and don’t feel comfortable remember that TCS www.tcsdcc.com has a goof proof warranty!

Thanks for the link, Simon. It’ll be usefull.

Jeffrey,

That’s the route I went. I used my Bachmann E-Z Command for a year before buying my NCE Power Cab and have no regrets.

Even though some view the Bachmann with askance because of it’s limitations, it could still run up to 3 locomotives at a time and access 8 sound functions - all for the whopping price or $53. And the time I spent using my E-Z Command was not wasted. I learned and enjoyed DCC firsthand. It also gave me time to study up on and choose what system I wanted to upgrade to.

Jeffrey, enjoy the Bachmann for what it is, and don’t let anyone “rail” on you for your choice…

Tom

Thanks Tom. I fell a lot better now.
