Now hang some wire from Strasburg to Leaman Place and the state’s official electric locomotive can run again.

I hope they put it where you can actually visit. Last time I was there the platform was off limits and you could only view it from a great distance.

Nope. The transformers have been gutted. You’d all but have to rebuild the interior from scratch.

Lots of preservation to like here: GG1 4859, cabin car 980016 (an N4?) and Harris Tower, with its restored, virtually operating US&S Model 14 interlocking machine. The “upgrade to power, signals and track” includes a new, remote-controlled interlocking. I’m happy that Amtrak is minimizing the amount of time and distance trains spend near the station at restricted speed.

You know…Just make a GG1 that is, like in model railroading, a dummy. Then, we could get one out on the rails even if it was the trailing unit. No more 100% GG1s in static display.

I viewed the GG1 from the eastbound “Pennsylvanian” on Oct. 26. It appeared to still have all of the dirt and grime that had accumulated over years of being displayed under the train shed.
