GG1s on Janis Roguskie’s city branch

Janis…great layout! Lots of attention to detail. I too, just love those GG’s, I have a few myself. If memory serves me correctly, I believe that you commented on a small 4x8 Halloween layout that my son and I pulled together last October on our dinning room table…that was a real great hit with Mom! Anyway, one question, in the beginning portions of your video, there is a short siding with what looks to be a Burro Crane and a Speeder-type unit, both M.O. W. (yellow)…I am interested in the “speeder” and the two little flat cars hauling track material…can you tell me who manufactures that? They are very cool looking! Thanks…keep up the good work…like I said up top, great layout!..Rich Walka

I scratch built the speeder and trailer cars quite some years ago.

Nice layout. Sorry did not hear the horns blow at all during the running.

Dear Janis: Don’t paint the PC GG1! It looks great pulling the military train! I have a brswk green K-line GG1 i don’t use in excellent condition. Contact me at tirottagrp@verizon.net and I’ll send it to you free. I am a S.P.F. (Slobbering Pennsy Fan…my H.O. loving son and daughter call me that! I have GG1s to spare in O and N and only a 4x9 layout. Your layout is outstanding in sight and sound! P.S. Buy plenty of aspirin or Jack Daniels if building a cantenary!!

Great layout and running. I wish we could see more of it. I love the GG1s and have two retired on my shelves. They weren’t scale size when I converted over. I think I will oil them up and give them a run. The Gs are a great running machine. Congrates on a great layout. Keep it running.

Nice layout, I love the track noise!
I wouldn’t repaint that PC GG-1, I think those are more rare than the others. Maybe buy a junky Conventional Classic 5 striper, and use the shell.

I have 2 80’s GG-1’s, and one conventional classic. the Con. Classic is a dud, doesn’t run well, and it has rubber tires.
those old magne-traction GG- 1’s are great pullers. they also look good with the 16 inch aluminum cars.
I’d like to see Lionel make their conventional classics all Magne-traction, and no TIRES!

Great layout. I wouldn’t custom paint the Penn Central GG-1 to Tuscan. I think it looks great as is! Get yourself a Williams Tuscan instead, or another Lionel.

Very nice layout and very good video. I think I liked the views down close to the rails at about human head high best. When no one is looking, I’ve been known to put my ear to the train board on a layout corner to get a great view and enjoy the full sound of the steel wheels on steel rail as a long train rushes by at speed! Loved to do that since I was 3 or 4. I have always kept one corner of the layout with just enough space to do it without getting in the train’s way.

Loved seeing G’s running, with or without wires. I have G’s both in HO and Lionel. I have an HO G in the McGuiness New Haven color scheme. My favorite picture that I took isn a real G pulling an orignal Metro Liner by the nose! Keep those G’s running!

Beautiful layout. Your PennCentral GG1 looks great as-is. I love my 1947 one-motor G. All versions are wonderful runners.

I agree that the GG-1’s should be run under catenary. They would look great that way. No matter they still looks very good.
for the record I model European railroads using marklin and Hag with mostly electric engines and am planning on installing catenary throughout.

Great job on the video and a fantastic layout.I also love to hear the clickety clack of the trains.

The GG1’s were always attractive and great runners. In reference to the pantographs and overhead wiring; they would have been challenging to set up and keep running. Lionel may have made the right call in not producing a catenary system.

Really liked the video. On the military train, those half tracks looked like Auburn, am I right? Can you tell me what manufacture the tanks are? What do you use to keep the tanks on the flat cars? I have a military train with a mix of Pyro, Auburn, Tim mee, o size Corge, and Dinky. Most of what I played with as a child. Tanks for the video.

Great layout. GG1’s are my favorite of all time. Have the 2nd set I got for Xmas in 1947 #2332 with the madison passenger cars plus a scale 1 stripe and traditional maroon 5 stripe. Love the video and look forward to another. Have been a long time subsriber.

Great layour! Thanks for sharing. I agree with the noise from the frog.

Very good layout. GG1s, K4s, M1s, etc. were my favorite motive power when growing up in southeastern Pennsylvania in the 1940s. My American Flyer loco was the Pennsy K4 and a whole slew of freight cars. Had many years of fun with them. Great layout. Thanks.

great video. i like gg1’s and anything from 1950’s and 1960. i have two gg1’s
(1-lionel,-green 1-williams-tuscan 5 stripe).

Nice layout! I really like looking down that S curve at around 6:54 and seeing the trains wind their way through it. Good job!!!
