That could be a cool place to model for a layout. I can see it now … The Bodie Satva Tavern, The Point Break Hotel … [:-,]
I spend my vacation every summer exploring old mines, mining camps and ghost towns in Nevada and the Mojave desert. I have tons of photos which would be great reference material for modelers:

I also have a lot of pics of vintage machinery for use as reference.
That’s given me some ideas for a row of abandoned building across the back of the layout.
Hey, I still want to find all those Wagon Trains of 1873 (?) Winchester’s that were rumored to dissappear out there… That eould be ‘gold’ today!!!
Say, I just played the ‘list’ in off time, & there are a cool couple songs there!
I like good music, & about 15+ years this song got me thru things & is still good, & if I made a video of a town this photogenetic, my first choice would be this song. I always thought of: rolling hills of golden white wheat & in fall during this one. I don’t watch the video, but enjoy the sound in my mind. I hope you see it too… Chris Whitley, Dust Radio… IMHO

Sorry, if there is an into tune/advertisement…
I assume Bodie is staged as a tourist attraction… There’s a lot of things that would have been stripped away years ago if it was authentic.

I don’t know how much of Bodie is “staged”, but from what I’ve read most everything there is just the way it was left. The town site was privately owned and guarded by hired caretakers for many years until it was turned over to the state. It’s been maintained in a condition of “arrested decay”.
Sadly, the recession and the state’s mounting budget problems may put this historic site at risk.
