GHQ metal models

I have a few GHQ metal models to build for our N scale modular layout. Does anyone have experience building and painting these and could offer tips as to how best to proceed. They will be in a prominent location close to the observer and I need for them to look as good as possible. Farmall tractors, Road graders and Bull Dozers. Thank, Skip

I prsoall ave never put one toger, but, Spookshow posted his accoun of puting one together on his we site. Here’s a link: http://www.spookshow.net/layout3b.html You’l have to scroll down a bit. Hope this helps

I have made a few in HO scale - forklift, hay bailer and manure spreader. They are craftsman kits in metal - pewter and etched brass. I use CA to assemble and clean with a citrus based cleaner I got at Lowes to remove any oil or grease from the castings before painting. There may be some small parts that are a bit filldly to put together, but that is part of the detail they provide. Read the instructions carefully, and cross-check with the pictures provided. On some of the smaller parts they priovided a couple of spares in case you break or lose them. Just because they say the color of farm equipment is “red” or “green”, you can paint them any color you want

Note that these are new items that go on a farm equipment dealers sales lot, so no weathering or messing up

George,

It’s a thing of beauty…considering it’s a manure spreader.[(-D]

Just wait until it has been in use for a couple of weeks…

“A good manure spreader salesman never stands behind his product!”

Mine lost it’s shine years ago.

Have fun,

Richard

They are nice kits that make great looking models when finished.

I’ve built a few of their HO scale kits. The hardest part was painting details on driver figures. I would imagine this would be even more difficult in N scale.

I used Floquil and Polly Scale paints using whatever colors I had in my paint drawer.

Here’s one of their tractor models I built and painted (note the driver which I thought was the toughest part to paint):

Here’s that same tractor with a modified GHQ hay wagon:
