A post received from the PRRT&HS indicates Gil Reid died on Tuesday of this week. Thought somone might like to know.
Is that the Gil Reid that worked for Kalmbach and was a renowned railroad artist? He sure contributed a lot to this world. May he rest in peace.

MR used to feature all sorts of little whimsical sketches by Gil Reid. Trains just had an article about his years of Christmas card paintings done for Chris Burger formerly of the C&NW and other railroads.
Here are some Gil Reid works available from the Mid Continent RR Museum

I am pleased that Gil autographed my print of his painting of GG1s and K4s at night. It was given to me by an organization I had done charitable work for.
Dave Nelson
Possibly the most famous railway artist, not much of his art was shown outside the worls of trains, this was a shame as his art was of an era of extreme importance in North America, a true artist in every sense. Anyone with any of his original art should cherish it.
For years he did the artwork on Amtrak’s yearly calenders. One of his best known works was the calender with the National Limited running on Horseshoe Curve (1979 or 80).
I regret that I didn’t save those calenders as the Amtrak agents always gave them to me at year’s end. I’m certain they’ll be collector’s items (look out ebay!).
On the 1991 Tracks Ahead series, hosted by Chuch Zaner, one segment featured Gil Reid and his artwork. Stunning work that included a Whale Back ship, A Milwuakee Road Hiawatha streamliner , GN F unit consist, and a Pennsy T-1. This man was incredibly talented indeed. Saddening loss.
